ACTS – Appalachian Creatives Theatrical Society

Our Work

Original Productions

At Appalachian Creatives Theatrical Society (ACTS), we believe that the heart of great storytelling lies in the communities that inspire it. That’s why we are committed to fostering local talent at every level—from local playwrights crafting narratives that reflect our local heritage to the actors, technicians, and artists who bring those stories to life. Every production is a testament to the incredible creativity thriving in our own backyard, with local writers shaping scripts that capture the essence of our region and performers who infuse each role with authenticity and passion. Our technicians and stage crews, rooted in the community, ensure that every light cue, set piece, and sound effect enhances the immersive experience. It’s not just theater—it’s a collective celebration of our community’s talent and voices.

Workshops & Discussions

We offer a wide range of interactive workshops in playwriting, storytelling, and performance, designed to nurture creative expression and provide participants with the tools to shape and share their unique voices. These workshops serve emerging and experienced artists alike, creating spaces where local culture, history, and identity can be explored and honored through the performing arts. In addition to these creative sessions, we host post-show discussions that invite audiences and artists to engage in meaningful dialogue. These conversations aim to deepen understanding of varied experiences, foster empathy, and build connections across diverse perspectives rooted in the region’s traditions and contemporary realities.

Annual Festivals

Echoes of Appalachia

A vibrant day festival that features a rich tapestry of live music and time-honored storytelling traditions, all rooted in the spirit of Appalachian heritage. Echoes of Appalachia not only celebrates the creative talents of the region but also creates a welcoming, inclusive space where art and community naturally intertwine. By bringing together performers, makers, families, and audiences of all ages, we foster shared experiences that honor cultural memory while embracing innovation.

Through workshops, performances, vendor markets, and informal gatherings, these events become catalysts for connection, reflection, and the continued growth of Appalachian artistic expression.

Community Programs

We believe deeply in nurturing future talent while engaging the entire community in the transformative power of the arts. Our programs are designed to be inclusive, accessible, and inspiring, while building skills in performance, collaboration, and self-expression in a supportive environment. These initiatives cultivate creativity, build confidence, and spark a lifelong love for the arts, ensuring that the cultural spirit of Appalachia continues to thrive across generations.

Collaborations & Partnerships

We partner with local artists, businesses, and cultural organizations to amplify the diverse and powerful stories rooted in our community, ensuring they resonate with both local communities and wider audiences beyond our region. By building relationships based on mutual respect, shared vision, and creative collaboration, we foster meaningful connections that strengthen the cultural fabric of the mountains we call home. Through joint productions that bring multiple voices to the stage, touring shows that expand access to the arts in rural and underserved areas, and the strategic sharing of resources such as venues, technical support, and educational materials, we cultivate a thriving, sustainable, and more connected arts community. These partnerships not only elevate the work of individual creators but also reinforce the collective identity and resilience of the region’s artistic legacy.
